For decades Annette was a “career boozer”. Alcohol was woven into everything, from her work in the legal world to her social life. Despite some serious health scares, she kept drinking and cried every time she thought about having to stop.
In this interview, we talk about what finally made Annette say “enough” and how she navigates champagne-soaked events without drinking. We also discuss the weight she’s lost since ditching alcohol and why that was so hard to do before.
“I was a career boozer. Always had been. Right from my late teens. I loved a drink, and it formed a regular part of my social life and very much a part of my working life right the way through.”
“I was putting away over a litre of gin a week – and that was on top of other drinks. Considering my health issues, it was very dangerous. I realised I was on borrowed time. It was very dangerous… and there I was just vaporising gin.”
