Madeline's Story

“I finally saw alcohol as the addictive, pernicious substance it is – not as a personal failing.”

If you’ve ever felt like you “should” be able to handle alcohol – because you’ve figured out how to manage everything else – then Madeline’s story will resonate deeply. As a trial lawyer, single mum and community leader, she managed to juggle everything except her drinking. And Madeline wasn’t short of willpower or drive. But her desire to change always clashed with her desire to drink – and her attempts to moderate never worked out. I’m happy to report that a lot has changed for Madeline recently, as she shares in this great interview!

Madeline Says:

“By the end, drinking felt like playing Russian roulette. There was no rhyme or reason to whether I could keep control or completely lose it.”

“I’d stopped drinking before – once for a year, once for almost 19 months -but both times I sleepwalked back into it. I did no mindset work, so nothing really changed.”

“While I had a terrible compulsion to drink, I also have a lot of willpower. So these periods where I could manage anything that looked like moderation, it was just like a clash of the titans in the back of my head constantly. It was overwhelming.”

“Taking the course was a 180-degree paradigm flip for me. It made so much sense. I finally saw alcohol as the addictive, pernicious substance it is – not as a personal failing.”

“At first I thought, how on earth are sober tools like aromatherapy or walking the dog supposed to help me? But when I removed alcohol, those things suddenly worked. They’re highly effective now.”
