5 things to try this September

Sometimes it’s the little ‘ah ha’ moments in life that make all the difference. Here are 5 things to try this month that will a) support your sobriety and b) help you feel great!

No1-min-min-min-minBuy some 2 litre bottles of water

We’re supposed to drink 2 litres of water a day. Staying hydrated improves your skin, your digestion, prevents headaches and can stop you feeling sluggish. But did you know it can also help combat cravings? Being thirsty can be a trigger for some people so make sure you’re drinking enough of the good stuff. Buy a big bottle of water and aim to drink it all by the end of the day!

No2-min-min-min-minWake up an hour earlier and make time to focus on yourself

As women, we’re not very good at putting ourselves first. Make the most of your hangover free mornings whilst it’s still light (ok, light ish) and get up early. Use the time to exercise, read or make a plan for the day. If you start the day right you’ve got more chance of staying on top of things… And you’re less likely to reach for the wine later.

No.3-min-min-min-minKeep an I did it list

If you’re like me then your to do list is as long as your arm. When you fall behind it’s easy to feel like you’ve failed, which is very demoralising. Try keeping a list of all the things you have done, whether they’re big or small. Do this for 7 days and by the end of the week you might just surprise yourself with how productive and amazing you are!

No.4-min-min-min-minCreate a stress buster playlist

Music is so powerful for getting us into a better mood. Create a playlist to listen to and help you de-stress at the end of the day. If singing along to “I will survive” at the top of your voice whilst you’re stuck in commuter traffic works for you then go for it. Or you might find some calmer, chill out tunes help you transition from work mode to home mode. Experiment and if it works, make it part of your daily routine.

No.5-min-min-min-minTalk to someone about your drinking

The anonymity of the internet is comforting but don’t forget to open up to those closest to you. Find someone who cares about you and supports you and let them know why you’re cutting back or taking a break. Their support can make all the difference – and you might find it easier to stick to your plans.

  1. If you can’t face plain water, try building up a selection of no added sugar dilute squashes. Good weight management ploy, too, to drink a glass every time you go to the fridge. The handbag sized concentrated like Squash’d are great for when you’re out and about and after you’ve paid for one coffee, no one will refuse you a glass of hot water (more comforting in autumn.) Helps avoid caffeine overload too

  2. another option is the lightly flavoured perrier! i love the grapefruit one so much, worth trying if you aren’t in love with drinkig plain water 🙂
