2023 In Review: Our Alcohol-Free Highlights Of The Year

“What’s been your alcohol-free highlight of the year? And is there a picture that sums up that moment, that you’re happy for me to share?”

That’s the question I asked some of my Sober School students earlier this week. The photos they sent in are AMAZING and I’m delighted to share them here with you.

Each picture gives you a glimpse into life as a non drinker… and just how much bigger, better and brighter life gets when you ditch booze!

There’s a story behind every photo and I’ve done my best to capture it here, in what might just be my favourite video of the year…

If you’ve got a particular alcohol-free highlight that you’d like to share, let me know in the comments below. I’d love to hear about it!

Hi, I'm Kate

I founded The Sober School to show you there’s another way out of your shame that doesn’t involve AA or rehab.

  1. Thank you Kate and you lovely people who have shared your beautiful photos and messages. I’m blown away by you all and so inspired. What resonates with me are the comments about being present for loved ones and their immense feeling of pride. Congratulations to each and every one of you, and Katie, you really are the best. Xx

  2. It was so great to see so many of the women I followed for years in the program.

Glad to see your progress- I am still sober just not following formally. I have managed to lose 25 pounds since mid May and am enjoying great relationships with my grandkids! Merry Christmas

    1. Congratulations Eileen, so good to hear from you and still going strong into 2024! Wishing you a very happy and sober Christmas time. 🙂

  3. Merry Christmas Kate, Jane,Su & Jo & thanks for the inspirational Advent Calendar & for the wonderful Sober Photo Highlights. This is my 3rd Sober Christmas as I did the October 2021 Getting Unstuck Course. I feel so blessed to have been able to find your Sober School Kate and having the ongoing Sober School support. Wishing you a Happy Healthy Safe & Sober 2024 ☃️

    1. Thank you Norma and congratulations on your 3rd sober Christmas – they truly are the upgrade that sobriety promises! Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and alcohol-free 2024. ❤️

  4. This is my first sober Christmas I have been AF now for 8 months it has been challenging at times but the moment I knew I have got this was September this year when I went on a cruise for my 60th birthday I didn’t touch anything and I didn’t miss the alcohol booze was all around me and I stayed strong
Looking forward to remembering this Christmas but your blogs and words of encouragement have been invaluable so thankyou Kate
    Looking forward to 2024 AF

    1. You’ll have a fabulous time Kieren and be able to treasure precious memories made with the clarity that alcohol-free living provides. You are truly missing nothing by adding alcohol into a celebration as you proved by your birthday experience. Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and a healthy and sober 2024! 🙂

  5. Best Christmas day ever yesterday and was sober. Much nicer without alcohol in my system. Bottles of alcohol still in the house and I’m not even tempted !
Think I made my children happier that they didn’t have to worry about me and that made their day better too.
    Looking forward to 2024 AF.
Thank goodness I came across this site it’s been an inspiration and a guide to me.
I have registered for the masterclasses in January so see you there whoever has joined.

    1. Hi Deborah, I agree alcohol free Christmases are the best! I can see you are on the waitlist for the Getting Unstuck course in January, you will be one of the first to know as soon as registration opens. I wanted to make sure you know that I also have a free masterclass that starts on Thursday! You can register for that here: https://thesoberschool.com/masterclass

  6. 21 days of drinking out of the last 153. I am still learning and trying to overcome the cognitive dissonance. I loved the inspiration of this video and I’m excited for the masterclass. Thank you for paying your sobriety forward!

    1. Hi Lisa, you are very welcome. Dive straight into the masterclass, I hope it inspires you to even more consistency in 2024.

  7. I am currently laying in the bed where I’ve been all day after another binge last night. Every time I drink, it’s a binge now, I have absolutely no control. I hate it and hate myself for it, and then jump right back in in a few days. I’m stuck in a nasty cycle that I don’t seem to have the strength to get out of. I’ve read book after book about addiction and what alcohol does to you, yet here I am still drinking. It’s such an unfortunate, vicious cycle to be in

  8. My family love me now they trust me which means so so much to me please god it continues and I have to thank you Kate and your team. ❤️

Are You Romanticising Sobriety Enough?
When I was trying (and failing) to quit drinking, I spent a lot of time romanticising alcohol. I’d mentally replay all the good moments I’d had whilst drinking. And I’d torture myself with thoughts of all the things I was going to miss. I talked about...
