2019 In Review: Our Alcohol Free Highlights Of The Year

Thinking about taking a break from booze in the New Year?

If you’ve been wondering what an alcohol-free life is really like, today’s blog is for you.
A few days ago, I asked some of the women I’ve worked with if they had a picture of their favourite sober moment of 2019.
I was expecting to get a few photos, but the end result blew me away.
I received tons of inspiring pictures and the stories behind them were so cool, I had to share them with you.
In fact, I got so many photos I couldn’t fit them into a regular blog post, so I made a little video instead.
No matter where you are on your sober journey, I hope you feel inspired by these amazing women and their sober highlights:

What is YOUR sober highlight of the year?
If you’ve got a favourite alcohol-free moment that you’d like to share, please let me know in the comments below. I’d love to hear about it!

Hi, I'm Kate

I founded The Sober School to show you there’s another way out of your shame that doesn’t involve AA or rehab.

  1. My highlight is that I chose to go AF prior to my move into a new home. It was a very stressful time for various reasons. I learned how to go through all the stress without having to fall back on a drink. It will be 9 months Christmas Day. The first Christmas AF in a few years. I am very excited and humbled for that.

    1. Congratulations Darla! That’s brilliant and it must be nice to know you’ve never drunk in your new home. Have a wonderful Christmas!

  2. I’m so thankful I found your website back in April. I had gone AF for 30 days for a diet cleanse and wondered if I could not add the alcohol back (my drinking had been a battle for like a decade). I didn’t know I wasn’t abnormal for being a problem drinker! Reading your blog posts gave me the courage and support to quit for good. It will be a year in April 2020 🙂

    1. That’s brilliant Claire! I’m so pleased to hear these blogs helped you get started. I look forward to seeing you hit that one year mark! 🙂

  3. Hi Kate, the thing I’m loving most about being alcohol free is the lack of a horrific hangover! Because of this I have enjoyed so much more ‘family’ time and spent so much more quality time with the people I love! You have been an inspiration to me!

    1. Thanks Charley! I totally agree – quality time with the people who matter the most is so important. Wishing you a happy, healthy, hangover-free Christmas 🙂

  4. I’m loving a fear free, stress free Christmas with planned treats that don’t involve eating or drinking but are everything to do with making memories. Cherishing the feeling that just grows year by year that the little things are, indeed, the very big things that matter.

  5. I joined the sober school in April 2018 and have been alcohol free since then, was one of the best things I have done in my life…. living life…. loving life is my new mantra.
    Thanks Kate xx

    1. So good to hear from you Katrina! Here’s to loving life and being fully present for it ❤️ Wishing you a very happy and healthy 2020!

      1. My favorite sober moment of the year is just being present for my kids. I’m building trust & enjoying them every moment of every day. They are enjoying my sobriety too. Very cool stuff!!!

  6. Best decision I ever made was taking your class in July 2018. I love being able to go out socially without a care in the world about having to regulate intake or concealing my intake. That mind wrecking feeling is a distant memory

    1. I’m so pleased to hear that! Regulating or hiding your drinking is such hard work, that’s for sure. Wishing you a very happy and healthy 2020 Celtic Warrior!

  7. Merry Christmas to all of you! I am 6 months AF this week. It feels amazing.
I had the best Christmas in many years.
Thanks to Kate and her wonderful course ❤

  8. Hi all! My first post at day 31 AF. I really feel this time the years of weekend binge drinking are behind me. I haven’t lasted this long in years. Just got so exhausting all the hiding and lies. My family think I’ve been sober for 4 yrs. I was ashamed at how sneaky and cunning I was until I came on here to discover so many others like me. This site is an amazing tool for me and I have visited quite a few over the years. Thank you Kate. The best of luck to you all on your journeys whether you’re well on the way or only thinking about it xx
